Why Living In Vernon, BC V1T 1Y5 is a Smart Decision?
Vernon is a small city in the Okanagan area of BC, Canada. It is 404 km northeast of Vancouver. Named after Forbes George Vernon, MLA of British Columbia who successfully established the popular Coldstream Ranch on Coldstream River in nearby Coldstream, this City of Vernon has been incorporated into a town. With a population of about eleven hundred, it is one of the thirty-two communities in the Okanagan formed by the British Columbia Settlement Act.
Like many of the BC communities, Vernon offers a wide range of living options to its residents. There are two main types of housing market - the urban/suburban and the rural/suburban. Although both offer housing opportunities to local residents, they do have different characteristics that make them unique in their own right. The city of Vernon is one of the relatively wealthy and developed areas of British Columbia with a solid economy based upon the Okanagan lumber industry, and with an attractive range of employment opportunities based upon the natural environment, high quality of life and rural/urban mix.
Although it is one of the more developed areas of British Columbia, Vernon is relatively young in terms of overall demographic development. At one time, it was one of the most sparsely populated cities in all of North America with a low population density. But, in the last twenty years, with an influx of new and young professionals (in particular those with a university degree), the number of people over the age of 20 has more than doubled to the benefit of this growing community. This has led to an increase in the average population size and consequently, more affluent and educated population.
Because it is located in one of the better and more desirable areas of British Columbia, there are many real estate opportunities for investors. Real estate values have risen considerably in recent years as the demand for real estate in this area has grown. Additionally, because Vernon is conveniently located within a reasonable driving distance of everything that you might need, from shopping to entertainment to work, you will not face the frustrations of long commutes to get to work in your community. If you need a car and live in a reasonably compact residential or business area, your options are even greater.
Another positive aspect of living in Vernon is the availability of large thoroughfares, like highways 1 and 2, making getting around the area very convenient. Areas nearby such as Kelowna and Sidney also provide affordable housing opportunities, with both locations offering proximity to major employers, like Surrey Island, BC's main employer. However, unlike many other Canadian towns, in Vernon you can choose between both types of living. You can live downtown but enjoy the advantages that come with living in close proximity to the rural environment of Vernon.
Although the real estate market in Vernon is somewhat slow compared to other cities, it is still one of the best in BC with an abundance of new development and homes available. This means that you will have the opportunity to find an affordable house that you can afford, as well as an attractive home that will make you want to move in sooner rather than later. In addition to your choice of home design, you will have access to all the amenities that you could possibly need. With a population of just over 11 thousand people, there are plenty of schools, shopping centres and other businesses for you to access. If you are ready to make your mark on the Vernon real estate scene, this is an area that is sure to welcome you with open arms.
